Harsco Environmental Announces Its Joint Venture with Tosyali Holding, Tosyali Harsco, Has Entered into Multi-Year Service Contract with Kaptan Demir Çelik Steel Mill

•    New three-year service contract with Kaptan Demir Çelik marks second contract of its kind for Tosyali Harsco in northwestern Turkey.

CAMP HILL, Pa. – (October 11, 2021) – Harsco Environmental, a division of Harsco Corporation (NYSE: HSC) announced today that its joint venture with Tosyali Holding, Tosyali Harsco, has successfully entered into a new multi-year services contract with Kaptan Demir Çelik (Kaptan), for its steel mill located in the Trakya region of Turkey.

Kaptan Demir Çelik, part of the Kaptan Group, is a family-owned steel mill located in Marmara Ereğlisi, Turkey. Kaptan started to first roll steel in 1964 in Karabük. In 2002, Kaptan established the first and only steel mill in the Marmara region. The mill operates an Electric Arc Furnace and a continuous casting machine and has a capacity of 1.4 million tons of billets per year.

Tosyali Harsco brings to Kaptan its expertise in safe and reliable under-furnace digging. Harsco Environmental has pioneered this activity on multiple sites across the world, and through its joint venture with Tosyali, will help Kaptan remove and manage build-up of materials under Kaptan’s furnaces to help prevent negative effects on production and mitigate environmental impacts. 

This new three-year contract is the second of its kind in northwestern Turkey for Tosyali Harsco this year, reinforcing Harsco Environmental’s ambition to grow its footprint in one of the most important steel producing countries in the world.

The under-furnace digging equipment Tosyali Harsco will provide to Kaptan is equipped with full hot work protection to ensure the safety of the operators.
